ABOUT THE EDUCATION AWARD
Created in 2006, the International Council of Design Education Award may be presented to an educator or researcher from an ICoD Member institution, in recognition of outstanding innovation or achievement in design education. Members may submit their nominations by filling out the application below, please ensure to include as many details as possible. Incomplete forms will not be processed.
Process
On General Assembly years, Educational Members of the Council are invited to submit their nominations for the Education Award for review by the Executive Board. All complete applications received by the nomination deadline will be reviewed and one winner will be chosen. Winners will be given an Award trophy at the ICoD General Assembly. Those that are unable to participate will be mailed their Awards.
Criteria
Innovation: this term is often erroneously used as a substitute for ‘new’ or ‘different,’ but innovation is much more impactful than mere novelty. Real innovation creates disruptive change, and this can only be measured over time, based on sustained impact.
Achievement: success in the implementation of goals that are exceptional in character and could have an impact beyond the scope of the institution, for the global design community.
Eligibility
Individuals must meet the following minimum requirements to be eligible for nomination:
— they must be an employee of or work within the nominating institution
— they must have practiced for a minimum of 10 years as a design educator or researcher
NB: Teams may be nominated for the Education Award for one common initiative or research project providing that each member on the team has met the first requirement and that at least one member of the team meets the experience requirement.
Conditions
In order to submit a complete nomination, the submitting entity must supply:
— bio of the nominee
— photo of the nominee
— a letter from the nominating entity indicating the reasons why the nominee is being put forward
